A catholic newspaper in Malaysia, The Herald, had been told by the government that it could not use the world 'Allah', which is God for the Muslims. The editor is now fighting the case, and meanwhile the newspaper has been banned. 60% of the 27 million people in Malaysia are bumiputras ( which means 'Son of the soil'). Their language is Bahasa Melayu and religion is Islam. They also have the majority in the government.
All these aside, my point is, why is the catholic newspaper harping on this issue? How does it help them to further their religion and belief in God by insisting that they can use the word 'Allan'? In what way will winning the case be good to mankind in general? Will it help more people to find God and go to heaven (if there is one)?
I think the editor has nothing better to do. If he spends these energy fighting this case into helping those in need, I think the final outcome would be more commendable.

There are more Catholics in Sabah and Sarawak then they there are in Peninsular Malaysia.
These catholics are mainly ethnic Sabahan and Sarawakians who speak Bahasa (unlike English in Peninsular Malaysia)
They refer to God as Allah rather than Tuhan, which is the same way God is Addressed by Indonesian Catholics and Catholic in Arab Countries. Go to Indonesia and buy and Indonesian Bible and you will see.
This is a futher encroachment on rights of worship of Christians in Malaysia. We must fight this, what right does anyone have of preventing you from using a word just because you are a Christian. It is ridiculous.
Hi Keith,
Nothing is fair in this world. Christians also complain when things are not in their favour. My point is, are we seeking God or fighting for rights (which would make it political rather than religious)? There is no encroachment on your rights of worship in Malaysia just because you cannot use the word 'Allan', agree?
Is it Allah, or Allan?
Tks for the correction...typed to fast. : )
